TYPES OF MASKS AND THEIR USE
The Decree Law of March 17, 2020, n.18, known as the “Italy Care” decree, introduced dispensations which aimed to simplify the validation process of airway protection equipment in order to facilitate its production and distribution.
The Decree Law at articles 15 and 16 and the subsequent memorandum of the Health Department (n. 0003572 of March 18, 2020) identify three types of usable masks:
1. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) art. 15
2. Face masks for medical use (Surgical Masks) – art. 15
3. Filtering masks – art. 16
The different kinds of masks Models on the market
FFP2 and FFP3: suitable for those who assist and/or are in close proximity to sick people.
VALVE MASK: it protects airways from dust and fumes, it has no outward filters.
FFP1: it has a weaker filtration power than FFP2 and FFP3 masks, but has the same function.
SURGICAL TYPE: prevents transmission from infected people. It needs to be frequently replaced.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: the recommended distance between people > 2 meters
